A Saturday morning crash between a passenger vehicle and a government trash truck left two people dead on the Anacostia Freeway near Pennsylvania Avenue SE, D.C. police say.
The accident killed 29-year-old L'tonya Brown and 23-year-old Edmond Crawford, both of Oxon Hill. According to reports, Crawford was driving the car at the time of the crash and Brown was his passenger.
The crash took place at approximately 8:45 a.m. on the morning of September 6. Both Brown and Crawford were pronounced dead at the scene, though police say a second passenger was transported to the hospital to be treated for non-life threatening injuries; that passenger was seated in the back of the vehicle.
The driver of the trash truck was taken to a nearby hospital, as were the truckers two passengers. Reports indicate they were in stable condition with non-life threatening injuries.
Traffic lanes of the Anacostia Freeway were closed until approximately 5 p.m. that day, authorities say. Further details as to the cause of the crash were not available at the time of the report, though officials will continue to investigate the crash.
