Just before 5p.m. on the Fourth of July, a toddler was hit by a car in southeast Washington D.C. The accident occurred along Alabama Avenue SE near 41st SE. The three-year-old girls family says the little girl was at a Fourth of July picnic when she saw her mom and ran across the street. She was struck by the vehicle at that moment.
Samiya Holmes was taken to Children’s National Medical Center where she was listed in critical condition. She soon passed away as a result of her injuries. The DC car accident attorneys at Goldberg Finnegan offer their condolences to the family and would like to remind drivers how important it is to slow down in areas where children are.
Most public parks have posted speed limits of 15 miles per hour or less, drivers should never go over these set limits and should always watch for children and other park visitors crossing the road. Additionally, drivers should avoid all distractions such as looking at a GPS system, texting, or looking at email on their cellphone, while driving through a park.
