Stryker Corp. has again extended the deadline for claims regarding its Rejuvenate, ABG II and Accolade hip implant devices. Patients who were implanted with these allegedly defective products have until April 17, 2015 to file a claim.

The extended deadline means that patients who received a Stryker hip still have time to seek compensation for their injuries and losses.

Under the terms of the original settlement agreement from November 2014, claimants will be eligible to receive approximately $300,000 per defective hip. Upward adjustments will be made according to the severity of the claimants injuries; for patients with extensive damage, the settlement will provide additional compensation.

Side Effects and Complications from Stryker Hip Implants

Stryker claimed its Rejuvenate, ABG II and Accolade hip implant devices would last 15-20 years, but some patients complained of pain and complications only months after surgery. The implants high failure rate and numerous reports of adverse reactions led Stryker to initiate a recall of the devices in 2012.

Patients with Stryker hips may have suffered from the following complications:

  • Corrosion of the implant
  • Metallosis, or metal poisoning
  • Severe joint pain
  • Infection
  • Implant loosening

The main issue with Stryker’s implants is their design. The ball-and-socket joint meant to mimic the movement of the human hip sheds microscopic metal shavings, which make their way into the patients bloodstream. This causes metal poisoning and extreme pain, in addition to potentially permanent or fatal health complications.

File a Claim to Recover Compensation for Your Losses

If you underwent the surgery to receive a hip implant but that implant failed, you deserve to be compensated. If you required a revision surgery to remove or replace the implant, the thousands of dollars in medical expenses, time, energy and suffering that you were responsible for should be returned to you.
