When an individual dies while working in Maryland, even if it is the result of a criminal assault, the dependents of the individual are entitled to workman’s compensation death benefits. Also it is possible that the next of kin and estate of the person wrongfully killed could bring a wrongful death claim against the person who was responsible for the attack. However, it is usually not possible to sue your employer for negligence. You can typically only recover workman’s compensation benefits in Maryland.
