The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration announced that it is investigating Honda Motor Co. for failing to report deaths and injuries involving the now-recalled Takata airbags.

The NHTSA gave Honda three weeks to answer a series of 34 questions about the way in which the motor company sought out and logged accident reports for the past decade.

NHTSA Deputy Administrator David Friedman issued a statement saying that, Honda and other automakers are legally obligated to report this information to us, and failure to do so will not be tolerated.

The NHTSA also stated that the organization had received information which indicated that Honda had specifically failed to report incidents involving the Takata airbags. The safety organization is concerned that Hondas reporting failures may extend to other defects or problems with their vehicles.

Takata Corp., Hondas largest supplier of airbag parts, issued a nationwide recall of defective airbags after the NHTSA determined that malfunctioning airbags can explode, causing the metal housing to break apart and spray shards of metal towards the face and neck of the vehicle occupants.

At least ten million vehicles have been recalled in the United States because of the defective airbags. If you or your loved one was injured by a Takata airbag, you may have a claim for compensation against the corporation.
