There was another bus crash involving a low cost tour bus in Virginia. The Silver Spring injury lawyers at our firm are investigating this incident. The bus incident occurred on March 18, 2014 in Stafford, VA, and the Princess Tours bus was travelling from New York to Georgia. The weather was not good at the time of the crash and the driver of the bus was apparently going too fast for the road conditions. Fortunately, it does not appear that there were any fatalities in the crash, however several of the 58 passengers suffered injuries. The purpose of this blog post is to provide some preliminary information to the victims of the bus crash that may be helpful. This does not create an attorney client relationship, though. If you are interested in hiring a lawyer for the crash, call us at (888) 213-8140. Whether victims of the crash hire our firm or another firm, we strongly suggest that the victims and families of those killed hire a lawyer promptly for this kind of serious accident cases.

The driver of the bus, Qilong Xiao, was charged with reckless driving by Virginia Police. He worked for Princess Tours, Inc. which is located in Indianapolis. He was arrested after the crash and taken to the Rappahannock Regional Jail. Most likely, the Virginia State Police and County Police will investigate the crash and turn their conclusions over to the Va. Prosecutors to determine what additional criminal charges, if any, should be brought against Mr. Xiao and/or Princess Tours. Any lawsuit regarding this bus crash would likely be brought against Princess Tours and against the driver of the bus.

The tour bus industry is under intense scrutiny by the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration as there have been a huge uptick in fatal accidents on tour busses.  Frankly, the tour bus industry needs to do a much better job of regulating itself, making sure that its busses are safe and properly inspected, and making sure that the drivers are not overworked and have adequate training and supervision.

The evidence is quite strong that this crash occurred as a result of the negligence of the bus operator Qilong Xiao.
