Authorities from the Montgomery County Police Dept have provided initial details on a serious two vehicle accident that took place at the intersection of Janet Road & Georgina Avenue on Wednesday morning and required the roadway to be closed for several hours.
According to the report, a 2014 Cadillac CTS sedan being driven by 72 year old Mr. Charles Gibson collided into the rear of a 2004 GMC work truck driven by a 33 year old Hyattsville resident – Mr. Emelvin Eliud Soto Alvarez.
While the cause of the accident is unclear at this stage, after striking the GMC vehicle, Mr. Gibson’s sedan crossed the median strip and then left the roadway, before coming to a rest in the south bound lanes of Georgia Avenue.
First responders unsuccessfully tried to resuscitate Mr. Gibson, who passed at the scene due to the extent of his injuries. The GMC driver received non-life threatening injuries and was taken to a local hospital.
The investigation continues.
